What tools wills I need?

Before enrolling it is recommended that you purchase a Afro Kinky Mannequin head which we sell in our ONLINE SHOP. You will also need 3-4 rattail combs, duck bill clips, mannequin stand, and 2 packs of Marley Braid Hair. Since you will be working with a mannequin you will not need hair products unless working with a live model. 

Will I still have access once my 12 months are completed?

Yes, you will have access to the tutorials once subscription is complete. We will have new tutorials added and for those you will need to subscribe to have access to those.

If I need to cancel subscription, but would like to resume may I? Also can I pick up where I left off?

Yes you may re-enroll at anytime and pickup where you left off.

Are the tutorials able to be downloaded?

Our program is web based only. as long as you have internet access you will be able to access tutorials. However they are not downloadable not will DVD's be sent. 

How does Rare Essence Academy differ from cosmetology and beauty schools.

Rare Essence Academy is a continuing education program that will help you increase your skill set for creating artistic and skillful work. We will not only teach you the fundamentals and advanced techniques to natural hair styling, but we will also provide a business course. Our business contains education on how to market/brand yourself, build clientele and grow your business. Rare Essence Academy is not an alternative to cosmetology school and will not offer a license.

Is Rare Essence Academy geared more towards teaching how to become a natural hair artist or the business trades in the industry?

Rare Essence Academy is correspondingly catering to both subjects. Fundamentals, advanced styling, and techniques are vital to a hair artist’s portfolio. However, they can almost be pointless if not marketed and branded correctly. We want to help build the natural hair artist in you while equally building and empowering the businesswoman in you. Students will not lack in either areas of the curriculum, Rare Essence Academy prides itself on the development of well-rounded and entirely educated entrepreneurs.

How long are the courses?

Enrollment is subscription based monthly opt for 12 months per course. Members are welcomed to advance to the next course at any time as well as enroll in any course at any time. However, it is our suggestion that the courses be taken based on skill set so students are able to achieve a solid understanding of the information given.

Is there any additional course material I will need to attend Rare Essence Academy, if so is it included in the subscription?

The tools needed and suggested are a mannequin, combs, clips, and scissors, which we offer in the REA store. Rare Essence Academy offers step-by-step video tutorials and lectures; a mannequin will allow students to learn the information in a "hands on” way and retain the techniques and styles provided.

Is there any help with the cost of my enrollment?

Since enrollment is established as a monthly opt-in subscription there is no financial aid or scholarship programs.

Does Rare Essence Academy offer a license?

We do not offer a license. Every state has their own set of requirements as it pertains to getting a license for braiding and natural hair services. Rare Essence Academy is here to equip you with education that you can use no matter which state you are in. Once you complete the full course and complete the styles taught by to REA satisfaction our students will receive a Rare Essence certificate.
